Welcome to AJY

We are one of the oldest study abroad programs for students from US colleges and universities in Germany. Directly enrolled at Universität Heidelberg and supported by AJY faculty and staff, our students experience full linguistic and cultural immersion in the historic city of Heidelberg. We work closely with ca. 15 affiliated partner schools in the U.S., but also welcome application from students from non-affiliated colleges and universities.

All about AJY in 3 minutes and 30 seconds:

What is AJY Heidelberg

AJY is a small, selective program that provides a highly supportive environment to our students, helping them to become fully immersed in university and city life in Heidelberg. In addition to facilitating students’ direct enrollment at the Universität Heidelberg, AJY offers in-house language and culture courses at our Study Center, located on beautiful University Square, and connects students with internships, extracurricular activities, and local language partners.

Heidelberg University

AJY is partnered with Uni Heidelberg, the oldest and consistently top-ranked university in Germany. A center of academic excellence and known as a “student city,” Heidelberg is heavily influenced by the university and research institutions. AJY students count among the roughly 5,000 international students, of 30,000 total students, at the Universität Heidelberg.

Strong Support

Our dedicated team of educators, mentors, and advisors are passionate about guiding our students through their academic journey and beyond. Whether it’s helping you excel in your courses, providing guidance on cultural immersion, or offering career advice, we are here to support your personal and professional growth.

“Studentenstadt” Heidelberg

Nestled in the beautiful green Neckar river valley, the city of Heidelberg sits at the foot of its iconic sandstone castle. Heidelberg is very much a “Studentenstadt”, a city populated in large measure by students and therefore an ideal place to make friends in classes, dorms, cafeterias, coffee shops, or during recreational activities.
